I was the guy dreaded going to the gym. So what would I do? I'd avoid my workouts, put them off, and make every excuse possible to get out of them.
I'd get all FIRED UP(usually right before the New Year). My mindset would be... "OK, this year I'm gonna get in the best shape of my life and get a six pack. For real this time!"
I'd buy a gym membership, workout consistently for like the first month.... and before I knew it, all my motivation was gone.
I'd be in the gym wondering if I was doing the right workouts, lifting the heaviest weights I could, with no kind of structure to my workouts.
Y'all know what happened next.... the results weren't coming quick enough, which killed my motivation, and eventually I was only making it to the gym twice a week, if I was lucky.
If this sounds familiar, I can totally relate. You're not alone!!
My fitness journey started a little over 3 & a half years ago. With
using P90x along with Shakeology. Since then, I've been able to lose a total of 65
pounds.
Everything came to a head for me after gaining 40 pounds in only 3 months. It was the summer of 2010. I remember it like it was yesterday. All of my life I wore a size L(Large). Within a matter of a few months, my shirt sizes went all the way up to a XXL.
I didn't really want to go back to the gym, because every other time in the past, even if I'd seen some results, it wasn't enough to keep me motivated to make this a lifestyle change. It wasn't until I started working out at home, that everything changed for me
For one, there was no commute. I didn't have to get all dressed up(you know how gyms can be like a fashion show), and I could do everything right from my bedroom or living room. Maybe I was a little self-conscious, but for me it was knowing that nobody was watching me and that I could look like a total amateur, and it didn't matter. All I knew is as long as I could give my workouts 110% at home,I would start to see results.
In my first 90 days I lost a total of 45 lbs. Then, the next 90 days I lost another 20 pounds. If you can
relate to not wanting to workout in the gym because of the same fears I had, I want to let you know that it's OK!
It's all about finding what's the best fit for You. For me, it was working out at home, and since losing the weight, I've been able to keep it off, and now I'm in the best shape I've ever been and life is soo much different.
I STILL don't own a gym membership.
